What species of bichir and geophagus are you looking at?
Geophagus are also more social cichlids and should preferebly be kept in a group. I think rainbows are also a little small for these sort of tankmates?

nah, the group is fine, all pretty peaceful. Geos are ok on their own, in pairs, and species-only tanks or w/ other species of Geos and similar species like mine. One might be better than the other, but I have seen all 4 ways done successfully
If it's one of the smaller Geophagus and Severum you may be OK.
Rotkiels are colourful and a little smaller than most Severum.
I think it will be trial and error but may be worth a shot if you really wanted to try it.
I think fish that won't pass 6 or 7 inches are more suitable than those that reach 12.
