Hello guys and gals, im usually in the african cichlid section but youll see me more here. i have a 90 gallon tank id love to turn into a SA/CA tank. i have kept oscars, jd's and red devils in the past-but that was over 10 yrs ago.

I want to stock the 90 with cichlids that stay in the medium size range, and are compatible aggression wise. i usually buy from a breeder a few hours away and have compiled a list-please let me know what you all think-and if it will work? im at a loss when it comes to medium sized cichlids-i originally wanted an oscar and choc. cichlid, but realize that for life a 90 gallon isnt big enough IMO.

Here is what i like: (keep in mind i have never kept any of these )

green sev
gold sevs
archocentrus Cutteri
arch. nigrofeciatus Convict
firemouth cichlids
peppermint pleco or possibly golden nugget

Would those work together? or should i ditch the convict? and would one of each be ok? i dont plan to breed-i have been reading tons on each species individually-but cant find much on the cutteri (blue eyed)..

or will this just be a mess?
thanks everyone! Mel:D

Looks like a good mix of fish to me. In my experience, cutteris are similar in disposition to convicts, but slightly less aggressive. When I have had equal sized fish of both species togeher, the convicts tend to get the upper hand. They seem to go after the cutteris more than the other fish, probably because they are so similar in many aspects. If you want the cutteris to feel more at ease and look their best, I would not stock convicts with them. But it is possible to mix them.

they should all get along fine. A few dithers would also help, silver dollars are the only that come to mind from south america

thanks everyone! i was wanting to get a trio of silver dollars, but then i read they reach up to six inches each! lol.. good lord.

Maybe instead of Convicts, try Herotilapia Multispinosa the Rainbow Cichlid. Much, much more peaceful than a Convict. But otherwise Nice stock list.

thanks ProblemZ! i am researching the rainbow you recommended now and it looks amazing! i think id like to swap out the convict for a rainbow-now i need to find someone that sells and ships them! lol

You're welcome, and they do rock.

I may get more one day heheh

yeah i saw that they get big, but i thought with just 2 (one green, one gold) i should be okay (?? hopefully? lol) ... i saw they reach at least 6 inches so i figured they would be the fatties of tank. im thinking here is my stocklist:

1 green sev
1 gold sev
2 cutteri (not sure if i should do 2 or stick with one??)
pleco
rainbow cichlid (not sure whether to get one or two here either)
1 firemouth

Everyone, im used to dealing with africans-where you overstock to help deal with aggression.. please let me know if this is overstocked for a ca/sa tank-i just dont know. id love to get 2 rainbows and 2 cutteri's but if i need to go with just one of each please tell me..

you all are great, and thanks for the input! Mel
