Hiya folks. I am new to MFK.

I have two tanks:

46 Bow current tenants are 4 Yellow Rainbowfish (4inch), one synodontis nigriventris (upside down cat) 5 inch), bristlenose Pleco, 4 Albino Corys and 4 grey Corys.

90 Gallon current tenants are two common plecos, each are about 11 inches long. I need to find them tank mates. I always wanted an oscar, but I think adding an oscar to this tank, based on what I have been reading, is too much for that size tank....sadly. If I got rid of the plecos, would a 90 gallon tank be ok for one Oscar to thrive in?

If not, I would like to add a hardy fun fish to this tank, but one that would not outgrow it. Really would like suggestions. I would love an arowana, but, still too big for a 90 gallon. Filtration is no problem, I am currently running a new Fluval 406 and have an old 205 and 404 I can add to the mix if needed.
Thanks for any advice and certainly for suggestions on some nice adds.

If you got rid of the plecos you could easily have an oscar in there

There are a few cichlids that can go well in a 90.salvini, green texas, freddie, grammodes, loiselli, firemouth, convicts....

You can go for Green Terrors, but you can't pair them up with Oscars... from what I've read GT are somehow can't tolerate Oscars specially in 125g (below) tanks.

+1 for getting rid of the common plecs, there are far more interesging and suitably sized loricariids for a 90g tank.

As virgil said, there are many interesting cichlids you could keep in that tank, keeping a pair of or several individuals of smaller species (6-8" max) along with a school of dithers and some bottom dwellers would make for a far more interesting tank than one big fat oscar and a couple of plecs that are destined to become stunted or outgrow the tank.

Well, I decided not to get an Oscar after all. I went out and picked up one Jack Dempsey and one Gold Severum, both adolescent. Also, picked up two small iridescent sharks, small ones. The guy at the store said they would be fine because they are extremely fast. Well, the dempsey has tried to get them, but has not been able to. We shall see.
I think I will probably have to get rid of the Plecos, they are pretty big and lumbering at just over 11 inches. I will replace them with smaller plecos though, not the "common" ones. I still am a big fan of Plecos overall. Would like to get some good bottomfeeders, cant put the Cory's in this 90, they are very hardy, but too small and will get killed rather quickly. I had a convict once that tore up the corys.

Also, going to the store to pick up a couple more tank mates for the Dempsey and Severum. I figure if I get a couple more adolescent chiclids in there now, they will do well together as they grow. Later it would be harder to introduce new members to the tank I would think.

Is be careful about adding to many cichlids to the 90 maybe one more like a firemouth may work or blood parrot. Both stay smaller and aren't overly aggressive

Not a fan of the blood parrot for some reason. Firemouths are beautiful, but, they may not be agressive enough to be in the tank with the Dempsey. Then again, from a young age, that may work. What about catfish, what do some of you recommend? I want some bottom feeders (cleaners) to grab up the fallen food.
