Hey guys it’s me again. God a mighty. When I decided to go out of my comfort zone of keeping predatory fish only, my fiancé fell in love with discus and is now becoming a hobbyist himself! I’m surprised at how easy it’s been compared to the years I spent reading about how difficult they are to care for. All it really comes down to is clean water and a stable ph. Mines 7.8. I took Gabe’s advice from the Jack Wattley store in Miami and everything fell into place! So I thought I’d share some updated pictures on mine nine babies!

But you know I can’t post a topic without asking something also lol.. my setup is currently fully cycled, and the fish have been together for two months now. When do they end up pairing up? Considering most of my fish are four to five inches, are they even ready to breed? What should I expect? Any help would be appreciated.

I want my grandchild! Soon hopefully haha..

This is my first experience with discus. Are my fish even or good quality? Considering discus standards? My fiancé and I just went around and handpicked our personal favorites from the Miami store.. I meant to post this in the discus forum. ‍‍♂️

Does anyone know when the fish usually pair up? I feel like I have an even amount of males and females because half are aggressive and the others aren’t lol. They’re all most 4-6 inches with a couple 3 inchers, 9 total. How long you guys think before I see pairs?

I cant offer much advice as I'm not very familiar with this species, but that is a beautiful tank!

You have some really nice looking fish!

What kind of filtration setup/ water change routine do you have if you don't mind me asking?

Also, do you use an RO system at all?

I've always wanted to keep some but was intimidated by some of the requirements.

I'm in fl and have very similar parameters.

Cheers!

Thank you! It’s a 90 gallon aquarium with a built-in sump. I also have a UV sterilizer. I keep my pH is 7.8. My temperature at 86 and I do twice weekly 50% water changes. All they need is stability in clean water. I was actually surprised how easy it was to keep the fish after all the hype I heard about them before hand. Mine are thriving I just hope to see them pair up soon I’m wondering how long that’s going to take.

The only thing I add to my tap water is prime and they thrive. I was afraid to keep them because I heard of all of the difficulties. But it’s been surprisingly easy.

Wow, beautiful fish!
