Hello everyone,

I will be moving to my FIRST home on July 1st!!!

I am planning on a 90 gallon tank and would like to hear your suggestions on filtration...

I have only used HOB ACs... but never a canister.

Would two AC110 be sufficient?

Why are canisters better? or worse?

If you recommend canister, can you give me some recommendations and approx pricing?

Thank you all, can't wait to move my growouts into a bigger tank

GROWOUTS - EBJD - AT Dat - Tiger Botia - Golden Nuggets - Frontosa

Yeah... two AC110 is good. I also like HOB's better than cannisters... because of the ease of cleaning. But with bigger tanks... i like to use a wet and dry filter.

I guess we're in the same scenario. I previously had a 90G with a pair of penguin 350B. I didn't think they did a fine job at keeping the water 'crystal clear'. So i added a canister and it definately kept my water pristine. The issue with the HOBs is that I get mist of microbubbles coming out of them. The filters have not collected much debris, but I thoroughly cleaned them out anyway, yet i still got the same issue with the bubbles. I'm not sure if the AC110 behaves the same, but i'm not too excited about these 350B. I didnt have this issue on my 55G, so i don't know.

Recently, I added the XP3 along with the pair of HOBs and it does a well job and keeping water clear of particles. I still get the mist of bubbles from the HOB. But if i turn off the HOB filters, the water is "crystal" clear. So at this point, I'm debating if i should toss the HOB filters and add an extra XP3.

Forgot to mention, I do have a 30G sump with the pair of HOBs and the XP3. I find the sump a primary source for biological filtration. Although it does a good skimming of the water, it provides little to no mechanical.

2 ac110 should be fine. I have a ac110 on my 90 plus an eheim 2217.
