Hi there,

I have an aquarium that is 90US gallons (346 litres). It was custom made to fit a gap in our wall, the dimensions are 40"long by 22"depth and 24"high. Fitlered by a DIY wet/dry. I know these are unusual demensions so I posted here on stocking.
Would an oscar, texas and 2 ornate polypterus work in this tank, or is that asking too much?
Failing that, any other suggestions that would make a nice living room set up?

Thanks.

I think that this setup would work fine, however i suggest letting the bichirs fatten up for a while then add the oscar and finally add the juvie texas a few months down the road
Good Luck

Ha, I probably should have mentioned, I already have the polypterus in another tank (250 litres). I was sold them at a younger age, trusting the shop employee, that they would be fine. Now I realise what I did was wrong, I should have researched them before buying. However some fault does lay with the shop for giving potentially wrong advice.

Just remember that the Oscar should have around 50gallons to himself, not because of aggresion but the huge bioload they procude.

I think it will work but with alot of work on your part. You have to make water changes your new religion! LOL. In terms of aggression I think you might run into a slight problem sense the tank is so short. Although all fish are different one could be a real ass and another a push over you never know. Oh and I would say tons of filtration. Get a canister that will turn the tank over at minimum 5 times an hour and also a large HOB. Or just run a sump.

^^ I also see the possibility of the Texas bullying the Oscar. Happened to mine even though the Oscar was twice the size of the Texas! Everyday the Oscar chased the Texas around then one day bam! Oscar sitting in the corner defenseless as the Texas bites her.

The tank will be filtered by a sump.
To all of those saying oscar with texas wont work, could you recommend a suitable other fish for either the oscar or the texas?

I would really like an oscar, however if the tank isnt right for the fish, then I wouldn't like to put the fish in an unsutable environment. Would it be possible for an oscar and a smaller cichlid?
I said texas first as the ones I have seen look amazing. Yet I wouldn't like the aggression as some suggested, so I guess oscar + tex are out.
