Smarty pants.... I know why it's there.... it just looks over kill for a 36" wide tank. It looks like you'll have 12" on either side of the brace.....

The width of the brace does look a little too wide Sean I'll agree with you on that, maybe it's an optical illusion though because of the angle of the photo.

Now that I think of it, there was that guy selling a tank 36" front to back with no brace and it held water fine....
