Hey, just wondering if anyone on here has put a 90g tank (48x18x24) on a 55g stand (48x12)?

Would you need to add a plywood and wood brace on top? Would it even hold the weight?

i would not do it, but perhaps you have the carpentry skillset that would be needed to create this makeshift stand and have it work and adequately support a larger tank. if you don't have the proper skills, you will have a big mess on your hands, because the tank will evenutally spring a leak.

does seem like a scary idea . . . at a minimum you'd have to put some plywood over the stand to support the larger 90G dimensions . . . and since the 55G is designed to hold a smaller tank, you'd be subjecting it to roughly 65% more weight than it is intended for . . . that's a pretty substantial load . . .

I scrapped the idea. As soon as I posted it I was staring at the stand, and said "nahhhhhh".

I went to home depot, picked up 6x 8' 2"x4"s, and 2x 2'x4' pieces of 1/2" plywood. I built a nice wood stand that could probably hold a much larger tank. Plus I fit a 20H and a 10g under it.
