Well I've settled on an African Cichlid tank. Not sure what kinds to get but I'm hoping to get at least 10 of them.

Are plecos compatible with AC's? and are there plecos that will stay under 5-6"? I'm getting brown algae buildups in very short amounts of time, sometimes under 24 hours. I love keeping fish but I'm getting sick of cleaning the glass everyday.

I'm assuming the answers to my questions will have alot to do with the type of AC's so just answer in general if possible. Stocking suggestions would be helpful as well.

Thanks ;)

Plecos can help, but they are not an end all for algae. You will still be cleaning, however I like bristlenoise for ACs. I would do tangs... some cyps for upper level, some lamps for lower rocky area.

My BN loves brown algea and once that was gone she ate every other kind. Very effective although it did take a few weeks in my 25 gal. I would stock four or five in a 90 for the best results.

They also require much more than algae for food. People often neglect this and think they will off algae and left over food. They need food for them as well.
Good point. We had just 1 BN that totally kept our 72 bow clean from algae & still needed extra food.
