Basically, I want to try my hand at breeding Pseudochromis diadem. In a 90 RR with 30 gallon overflow system. So, how many would you suggest putting together? I know they do not generally get along great but, I also know they have been CB so people must have had them together. I have not set this system up yet but, I have the tanks, stand and I do plan on adding a ton of live rock. Nothing much other than that. Just sand a whole bunch of live rock and -- Pseudochromis diadem. That's the part I need help with.... How many fish? This is going to be a species only tank. I have kept several species of Pseudochromis in the past but always in single. I have never kept more than 1 per tank. My sole purpose of this tank is to try and breed these fish and diadem is my personal favorite of all the Pseudochromis species. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have no idea...just did some poking around, couldnt find much on their breeding.

Maybe one bigger tank with lots of hiding spots would be beneficial, then add a group of individuals as you see fit for that size of tank.

Do you know how to tell males and females apart?

Yeah, I actually can't find much more on their breeding other than they have been breed in captivity. I am not sure on how to tell males and females apart either. I am hoping someone on here can help me clear some of this up. The only real evidence I have found searching the net is to put a group together ( But no group size is ever recommended ) and the male with sort of "gather" a harem of females and breed and yet again the places I have found never say how to tell the sexes apart. That's really all I have found. I really just want to do this to see if I can. I'm not looking for monetary gain or anything like that. Just love salt fish and want to give it a go.

I don't have any experience with this fish or marine breeding in general, but Matthew Wittenrich covers the Diadem Dottyback in his book "The Complete Illustrated Breeder's Guide to Marine Aquarium Fishes" though he lists the species as Pictichromis diadema. He describes P. diadema as protogynous hermaphrodites and notes, "The inherent aggressive nature of this fish limits any pair formation...Promiscuous spawning seems to be the rule." I'd definately pick up the book if this is something that interests you - lots of great information. Hope that gets you started in the right direction.

The most I can find is that some people can tell the sexes apart.

Maybe google scholar it to see if you can find any scientific papers on it.
