I have been doing some major research with most of it being here. But I still need some advice and help. The outside frame is going to be made with angle iron, and plywood mounted inside that frame. Then I was going to put acrylic inside the plywood ( prob 3/8" thick). But my problem comes to the front that is going to be the window and the lid. I am at a total loss here and would like some help. Looking for advise on how to make this work. Also what are you guys painting or using to make the walls black?

Thanks

If you line the inside with 3/8" acrylic simplly line the front with 3/8" as well and cut out where the viewing window is leaving 3/8" acrylic on the top, sides, and bottom which will be good for using the same acrylic glue to bond the front viewing pane in place.

You can also then use the weldon (glue) on the outer edges of the acrylic viewing pane for extra bonding.

Just a thought.

Didn't think of that. I could use that idea to make multiple viewing windows even. I like it. But for the black I mean painting the walls. Should I paint the plywood then attach acrylic or somehow paint the acrylic?

Thought about that but the place I was going to use couldn't get black for some reason. Looks like I'll be getting some from another outfit. Do you think the angle iron would hold or should I support sides with 2X4 as well. the angle iron is going to be welded all up, but I would rather overbuild than not enough. :WHOA:

Hmm.. First im shocked no one else is responding....

And with that long of a run you are going to need some vertical supports for sure. I am not an expert but I would think that decent sized angle iron that is welded to the upper and lower frames in say 12" incriments should hold the pressure just fine. That along with say 3/4" plywood should be fine.

Any flex here could also fracture the 3/8" acrylic liner.

how thick is the angle gonna be and for black paint use mariane paint bro

i'm doing the same thing you are doing
my angle are 3"x3"x3/8"
my bottom, sides, and back are 3/4" ply
my front is 1 1/4" glass
plyw are apply with fiberglass about 3 layer
and painted with mariane paint
