The Moon
i put plants in my ten gallon with sand and driftwood to grow out my bichir that was being picked on, and it wont be long before hes moved into the 48 again. My problem is that the plants i put in also brought in snails. i want them out.

i really like puffers but i think the gsp's and fig 8's get too big for a 10 gallon am i wrong? And i like CL but once they get bigger i have no where to put them so a puffer that stays small is what i want. Any ideas?

thnx

loaches grow VERY slow so i would go with a clown loach...

GSPs need brackish to marine water. Figure 8s like brackish too. I wouldn't even worry about them if I were you. I would worry more about getting a bigger tank for that polypterus becuase it is going to outgrow the 48. What else is in the 48 now?

its a senegal so i was told the 48 would be a fine size for him, right now it's got african cichlids in it. Getting a bigger tank is out of the question my parents wont allow it. if it does seem that he has outgrow it he will be sold or given to a friend with a larger tank, i wouldnt let my creatures be cramped is discomforted in any way.

but if figure 8's only get 2.5 inches that would work

dont know if this works but i heard to put a piece of cucumber in a glass bottle and let it sink to the bottom of the tank...the snails will congregate inside to eat the cucumber then you pull it out and discard the snails

that will actually work, one of the best non-predator methods that i know of is simply sinking a cucumber or similar just before the lights go out and then pulling it out a couple hours later. if you absolutly have to get a predator then go with a dwarf puffer, F8's and GSP will eat snails but they will outgrow a 10g and need BW setups vs a dwarf puffer that gets about 1" long, is completely FW and will love a 10g. do not get a clown loach.

I put a clown loach in one of my 10g shrimp tanks (red cherry shrimp) to eat the snails that appeared in there. He doesn't seem to eat them too quickly as I always find a stray snail here and there. Perhaps because he likes to much on the shrimp themselves. So be aware clown loaches may prefer shrimp to snails, but they will eat a few snails too.

i borrowed a small cl from a friend, he doesnt seem to like snails either. the small cl and the snails are the only thing in the tank, i guess ill give him back to my friend and get a dwarf puffer, how many can i have in a 10 gallon?

and what should i feem them after the snails are gone?
