well.... i did my 1st ever water change after 2 wks on my 210 gallon on the basement. turned off all the plug, siphoned the water and waited...

moments later water was flowing out of control on my sump!!! :nilly: turned out that the pump of my sump back-siphoned and keeps filling my sump :( big mess! good thing the floor is still not finished.

now i am worried of power failure...
what shud i do or adjustments shud i make?

im thinking of making my return pipe very short.

Um.. Ya In my opinion if you are not runnin a undgravel jet system which also has return jets at the top of the tank.. Then your return should be at the or just below the water level. :)

Need pics of the setup, in order to figure out problem!

you might just want to drill a hole in the downpipe....a hole couple inches below water line in tank......

this way once water goes below the hole, it will suck in air, and break syphon...

Post pics, and get a better diagnoses...

hmmmmmmm... HEY THATS A GREAT IDEA!!! thanks man!

that how mine is setup. water will stop once water goes below the hole.

i agree with what has been said here. However, i drill my hole just above the water line. Two holes on opposite sides of each other.

Check valves can be life savers as well.

it was my fault on the 1st place actually...
the return pipe was shorter than what i have now, i dont know for some reasons i wanted to change it for the longer one. :screwy:

Lesson learned.
either i put back the short one or ill drill holes on this one im using.

thanks for the replies! i love this site.
