I was curious if anyone had tried to make a steel tank for fish. I have been looking through some ply builds on here and there is alot of talk of leak problems but if you were a good welder you could easily use some thin sheet metal with an angle iron frame and even without a coating you wouldnt have to worry about leaks aside from the glass siliconed in the front. After you did that you could finish the outside with some nice wood and make it a furniture piece.

My question is has anybody tried this?

I dont recall reading about any!

Hmmmm I have been kinda thinking about this all day. My dad does hvac work and I was thinking I could take a 4x8 sheet of real light sheet metal and build a box missing the front and the top. Then build a angle iron frame to put it inside. Then paint the inside with some sort of cheap marine grade paint. Silicone the seams which would just be along the back then silicone a front glass. For support and astetics you could cover the outside with an attractive looking wood and you would have a pretty nice looking tank. I could be crazy but I think I would trust painted sheet metal better than pond coat over plywood.

Thats a little more expensive than I'm talking about but still sweet.
