Just had my ac go out at home and was wondering if this has ever happened to anyone. Have 5 tanks in the house and won't have it fixed till Monday. Hate to lose any fish.

Had it happen in FL twice....and I'm pretty sure your humidity there is lower (I lived in Daytona Beach) so just try to keep the lights off, fans to cool the house at night and everything should be fine. I'd turn the lights on long enough to wake them up, feed and lights out....slow the feeding too cuz the dark....I think....when in longer periods should slow the metabolism.

Blow fans at a 45 degree angle over the surface of the aquarium to evaporate water. This will cool your tanks by about 2 to 3 degrees below ambient temperature. Also increase your aeration as warmer water has less holding capacity for oxygen. Good luck!

How hot is it there now, average during the day?

Had this happen before. I kept the high temp sensitive fish cool by filling small plastic soda bottles 3/4 full of water, freezing the bottles, and placing 1 or 2 bottles (as needed for tank size) in the sumps to keep the temp from going too high. Didn't lose any fish waiting for the A/C to be repaired. Just lost some sleep from replacing bottles every 4 hours.

it will be 98 tomorrow, 95 monday, and 93 on tuesday. Did water change today. Placed ice in buckets to cool as needed. will do this for the next day or so.

Sounds good to me, fans and shade would help, I fyou have your tanks on tile or linoleum you can also drop the air temp around them with evaporation cooler made by placing a bucket of water above the tank and inserting one corner of a sheet into it with the rest of the sheet spread down and over the tank, water will wick down the sheet and evaporate providing some cooling, only a few degrees though. I would be careful that your ice buckets are very clean and don,t have any soap or solvent residue in or on them. You would hate to kill fish while trying to keep them cool.

Your fish will be fine, I have a 75 gallon on my back porch, fish do fine. I am father south than you are:naughty:
