As a person who is of the budgeting type, I am curious as to how I might achieve this so I can get rid of the ugly cover that is on my tank. Any ideas?

I've done some nice cable suspensions before - just make sure the ceiling anchors are the right type and can hold the weight, I usually buy the ones for double the weight. I used eye bolts and then stainless steel cable. How you connect it to the lights will depend on the lights themselves.

As a side note, I have also been seeing a trend with pendant lighting over aquariums now. It looks very nice but can limit the choice of bulb you can use and spectrum of light in some cases - of course, there are some really nice options for some money.

Basically did the same thing, except I used a tension mechanism to connect the lights to the eye hooks. Once you set the tension for the weight of your light you can move the light up and down and it will stay where you put it. Big help in cleaning or adjusting things in the tank.

Picked up mine for about $18 a pair (one set per each fixture)

Guessing there are lots of other places and options, but this worked for me.

Yeah pretty much all my friends who have tanks have or are planning to suspend their lights. It looks cool. But the whole set up costs some money. I'm planning on using an old fishing pole and some steel cable attached to four eye hooks. That what it can easily be adjusted and it goes with the whole fish theme. Haha. A little hillbillyish I know, but theres nothing wrong with hillibillies. I'll post pics once I get it set up.

Wish I thought of that! Using fishing poles is way cooler than anything I came up with.

cheers
