When doing a water change I have been using the old tank water on the plants outside. The benefit is that the high nitrate water will benefit the plants and also it save just dumping the water down the drain.

Our home is on a water meter so it helped to save water.

Feedback will be appreciated.

I just heard about this as well and will be trying it out very soon. My question now is, will it be better to water the plants with it once a week? Like when I do my water change, or should I use some kind of pitcher and just grab a little bit everyday?

If I did a water change of 1 gallon everyday on my 55g would this be good enough? I wouldnt think 1g would be enough to do anything in the tank...so I am leaning towards doing it once a week and just water the plants once a week with the tank water...

I would do your regular water change and save the water in 2-3 5 gallon buckets and empty it a gallon or two on the plants every day...

The reason i still have/use buckets during waterchanges. 5g bucket more than enough for the plants in the house.

thats what i say when my mom says my tanks use too much water... im just borrowing the water from her plants for a week and im adding in nutrients to the water as rent..

I've been doing that for both our outside and indoor plants since I first got fish. I also clean the filters out into a large container and use the fish waste for fertilizer. We have the best looking and hardiest plants of anyone I know.
