ok I am looking for some ideas of some cichlids that would comfortable work in a 40 breeder and that i could breed in the 40

My 1st choice would be Firemouths. I have a breeding pair in a 40B and they do well in it. Their behavior is entertaining to say the least with all the gill flaring, yet I have never had their aggression be more than just a show. Wide availability and smaller size is also a plus. Convicts & Sajicas would be good options as well, but aggression could be more serious. Any of the dwarfs, like Rams would be an option, and their small size would allow maybe 2 pairs. I have a pair in a 29 g that do fine. Whatever you decide, I would stick with smaller species.

would a pair of Acara work in that size tank? I know they arent very aggressive but not sure size wise.

A male Gymnogeophagus quilero (AKA yerbalito)
From Uruguay, it doesn't require a heater, and does best as 1 male to 2 or 3, or more females.
They are delayed mouthbrooders, eggs put on the substrate, then wrigglers picked and held.
a holding female below.

and a dominant male

whats the cichlid on the bottom
