Hi, I have two tatauaia payara about 6" living with two orbignyi rays around the same size. I have got them feeding on chopped up whitebait, tilapia and a little beefheart. I feed every couple of days. Is this ok or should I feed them every day? I only feed a little chunk and the rest the rays eat.
Secondly, I want to add a couple fo tankmates for them. Ideally Flagtail Prochilodous and Tinfoil Barbs.
I bought two Twin Bar Tinfoil Barbs at the weekend and after acclamtising I tipped them in. They swam to the bottom, much to the delight of the Payara! They took a few swings at them so I hooked them out and put them into another tank. The Barbs are roughly 3-4" long, are they too small? Do I have to put slightly bigger fish in with them? One of my friends has a 6" Arowana that he wants to sell. Would this be safe with them?
Many thanks

i would feed them as much as they will eat.

tankmates need to be around the same size.

be careful, most fish will grow alot faster then a tat.

tankmates are usually hit or miss with payara.

pretty much what trev said.

i would think the tinfoils should be fine, maybe the flagtails. the flagtail I used to have would swim with my tinfoils, so the safety in numbers schooling thing would help. the problem w/ tinfoils is they may eat all of the food before it gets to the tat. mine hasn't eaten anything for a week :irked:

flagtails arent a good mix with rays imo they like to suck the slime . hickeys on rays ... bad
oh, yeah, musta missed the rays. if you do decide on a flagtail, watch it carefully

My flagtail hated my Payara.

Be very carefull with tankmate selection or you will be writing the next lost my Tat thread. Most important is feeding time, don't get anything that will out compete the Tat. Thats when bitter feelings start.

The other Payara/Tat thread has more info in it if your interested.
