I have a 2 inch Black Nasty, and a 2 inch cuban in my 26 gallon bowfront right now as a growout. I will move them to my 125 when they grow large enough to not be eaten. What are the respective growth rated on these fish? Also, can I have a reasonable expectation that they could exist with hardy tankmates in a 210 when they are full grown?

Bump for a great friend, who has already heard my 2 cents on this topic :)

On the Cuban I would expect around 1" a mth while young maybe a little less slowing up around 8" onward. It should be fine in a comm 220gal IMO.
I have yet to own a Black Nasty so I won't put my 2c for that reason. No doubt some one else will fill you in there.

Spizz, thanks for the bump. I don't remember what you told me about the compatibility of Black Nasty's in a community tank.

well, im not to sure on that cubans growth rate, my dad had a pair of cubans, which are now bolty's but they grew nothing when my dad had them apart from the male maybe maximum an inch and they were like 4-5" oh yeh btw my dad had then for about 5 months atleast probably even more.

Bump

The black nasty will almost certainly have to be kept by himself when he snaps. The cuban if grown with mates will likely be able to live with an aggressive community. The cubans will get 9-12" the nasty will get 10-16" small end being the female usual growth rate. BUT,,,,,,as we all know there are exceptions to the "rules" all the time so, who knows. I will be anxious to see what happens with them :)

my black nasties grow around .5 - .75 inches a month. probably a bit on the slower end?
i dont know about cubans.
that 26 is gonna be a warzone soon. get a larger tank, quick.

Tank space is not an issue with twhittle. He has tanks......

...and getting more, that's why it's a growout.
