I want to add something new to my tank but i dont know what??? I have a full grown Oscar, 9 inch Black Ghost Knife, green severum, bristlenose, red tail shark, some silver dollars and clown loaches. I also have a synodontis catfish which i want to rehome due to aggressive behaviour towards my BGK. I would like something with a bit of colour, every fish i find that i like either gets to big or is to aggressive. My oscar and my BGK r my fav's to i dont want to upset either of them by adding something that is going to hassle either fish.
I've always wanted a JD but worried about aggerssion. There is a choclate cichild in my LFS and they would swap it for my syno but i think they get to big???? my tank is 6 ft. 500ltrs. Also seen a cuban cichild in another LFS but then found out they are bad arse so now thats off the list. I like red severums but never seen them in sydney (australia)

Can anyone reccommend a medium sized brightly coloured cichild?

JUst another quick one......
I got my green sev about 6 month ago and he is still quite dull in colour, he is about 4/5 inches. I got after seeing lots of really nice pics of turquoise fish but mine isnt showing much colour at all. Does the colour come as the get older or do i just a have a dull fish.

Heres some pics.

Hypsophrys nicaraguensis

Great gold and blue color and a bold personality. I got one because it was cheap but it has become on of my favorite fish.

I doubt a chocolate cichlid would grow any bigger than your oscar, but I don't know that much about chocolate cichlids.

Considered a green terror? Though you may not want to for the same reasons as the Jack Dempsey.

Australoheros facetus/Chameleon cichlid/chanchito is another option, and I'm pretty sure I've seen them available here. From what I've read they're fairly mild mannered but there's no guarantee they'll be colourful for you.

A blue acara or a port acara might work. My 4" blue acara has similar colouring to the 3.5" Jack Dempsey he shares a tank with at the moment.

Another option might be an eartheater/Geophagus of one kind or another. They can be pretty colourful and make for quite an attractive fish, but most people seem to recommend keeping them in groups.

Which fish shop/s you go to?
I'll keep an eye open for red severums for you.

yeh i like green terrors also but a bit unsure about there temper, especialy in regards to my bgk...I guess a blue acra could be an option.
I been checking out heaps of shops....surry hills, newtown, marrickvile, botney rd, st geogre and a few in the western suburbs.

Never heard of Australoheros facetus/Chameleon cichlid/chanchito....i'll have to check em out

Hadn't heard of Australoheros facetus either until this week. The best fish shop I go to is Oceanarium on Queen Street in Saint Marys, which might be a bit out of your way but they're cheap and have a massive range. They had a tank of cichlids I didn't recognise that the staff weren't sure about either, but based on what I've learnt recently I think they're probably Australoheros facetus.

You considerd a Salvinni cichlid,Nice yellow's red's and some blue's.
They generaly stay about 6-7in and temper I think you should be okay with a 6' footprint.
Or a Firemouth cichlid 6-7in also and can hold their own nice dark grey/charcol grey and red.
Hope this gives you some more choices too choice from

so was doing the rounds of the fish shops today and came a cross some blue acara, i didnt buy one straight away....checked out a few more shop and found a Salvinni but the shop was pretty busy and the was another fish shop just a couple of shops down the road. I was going to check out the other shop then come back and get the Salvinni but it sold in the 10 mins i was was away so i went back and got a blue acara. Hes just setteling in now. hopefully by morning he has relaxed in his new tank.

Anyone have know if my sevurm's colour will come out as he grows??
