OK, so in my growout tank (30 gallon) i had this stock
-african butterfly fish
-senegal bichir
-albino senegal bichir
-2 x heckelli threadfin
- new peacock bass
-leopard ctenopoma
All are under 3 1/2 inches, so this is whats got me stumped, why in the hell have the senegal, the peacock, and now one of the threadfins are dead and the threadfin looks to be dying. I seperated the cten and he seems to be fine in the QT but the senegal died first, then the peacock, now the heckelli. Only had the peacock less then a week and when i told the LFS guys that it had died i guess about half of them that they sold did so idk whats up with that, maybe it or the senegal had something thats now in my tank?! This is scaring the crap outta me seeing as though ill be pellet training the BATF in the 30 and dont want anything to happen to him!! I was going to leave him, in w/ the thread fins as teacher fish.
So this is about the 4th or 5th time a fish has died from that store in my 30. Completely randomly w/o signs of stress, i mean take a look at my cichla id thread the peacock looked healthy and happy! Even dead it didnt have stress coloring. I have been seeing breeding behavior from my heckelli though, could they be beating on everybody else? I did try seperating the hecks maybe the stress of the seperation caused the female to get to the point its at? The only symptoms shown are losing balance, my cten, african butterfly, albino sen, and other heckelli are fine. Dont get this at all.
My params are fine, the waters at the right GH and KH, PH is 7.5, Nitrate was under 20 this morning before i did a WC ( I always do one after fish death). Nitrite and ammonia are 0.
Can anyone help me out? I havent changed anything about my WC schedule, still once every monday and thursday. Im adding pthos soon just in case this is a water quality issue but i really dont think it is, i keep my water pretty clean. I run an AC 70, appropriate size air pump, and power head.
Also my TV is next to this tank, could this be an issue? Fish don't seem to be in stress colors often, I did just pick up a black cling background for it though hopefully that'll help
