We went fishing last night, and my dad noticed a large crayfish crawling by, and I caught it. It doesn't look like any crayfish I've seen around here, other than I've seen only one other crayfish as big as this one is. It was caught in Osage Lake in Kansas.

I am no photographer, and don't really know many functions of my camera.

I'm new to crayfish but I agree-he looks like my P.clarkii. Mine was red like that and then turned blue after he moulted. They're cool, personable & mine is getting pretty big. He'll take food from my fingers.

Procambarus clarkii.

Yours is a female. :naughty:

That's what I was thinking... though I can't really 100% tell myself.

I wonder what it was doing there...
Maybe someone used it as bait and dumped it in there or something.
I don't think it's native to Kansas...
I don't really know all the natives either though.

Not sure, but i think clarkii's are native to a lot of southern states.

P. clarki's not native to Kansas, but it's one of the most commonly transported crays. They're the most important aquaculture species. If you go to a crawfish boil that's more than likely what you'll be eating.
