A cure for ich could be near!!

not really interested ill stick with drops or salt and raising temp seems more natural and effective maybe they should use the funding for something a bit more life and death like cancer or hiv in humans

i have only ever had to treat for it once in my 15+ years of the hobby and thats cuz i added a fish from the pet shop that had it. now i quarantine every addition, sounds to me like people just need to get off their rear and do the water changes

would be cool to have a cure though i wonder how quick it would be out of the hobby if it worked

Their not really doing it for pet fish. Ich is a serious problem at fish farms grown for human food were its not that simple to just raise the temp and add salt.

Yeah it is for fish farms. Where they use chemicals that leach into ground water and cause damage to the enviroment. So it is a good thing not just for us. It will be years before they let us hobbiest get it I think.
 
I doubt we will ever see the vaccine for home use. Instead fish you buy from the LFS will be supplied fish from breeders that already use it in their fish farms. I don't think it will ever be used on a small scale, home use.

Why not ? If its profitable, argue against that.
 
oh i see for market fish thats eaten as food, well i guess ill be watching the fish i eat much closer in the future. i would hate to find out it has side effects on people who ingest these fish down the line. lets hope it does not but i can see some kind of a warning/red flag against eating chemically enhanced fish in the future kinda like the whole swine flu or egg craziness you see on the news from time to time
