As you may or may not know I am looking for a nice cichlid to go with my RD and Pike in the new 125, so i spent today looking for a nice fish, not perfect mind you just nice. So I loaded my son in the truck and headed out for the day.
I hit almost every store I know about from Parkville/Perry Hall to Glen Burnie I even found a store I knew nothing about, and 1 I have been wanting to go to. About 7 stores in all. I found a cpl of nice ones, in 1 store, a dovii that's about 4" bigger than my RD and the way he went at my finger would shred her in a heart beat, A very unimpressive black belt (do they loose the stripe with age?), then a Beautiful True Red Texas I just didnt have $300.00 to spend on him. Then in the store I always promise I won't return to a nice big GT, just not worth the $100.00 they were asking for him IMO, and a Red Texas (though it wasn't red) for another $100.00 actually $98.00 I asked if they would come down on the price they offered it at $10.00 off but the price quoted was only $8.00 off. And again their service sucked which is why I hate going in there in the first place (but I really want to find a fish).
All though I have yet to find a fish I did have a ball with my 7yr old son as he stared in amazement at the different fishes. We saw an electric eel, plecos galore RD's, JD's Glass Ghost Knives, Snakes, Lizards, Birds, and all types of animals. Its great to see him learning and appreciating animals beyond the normal cats and dogs.
I started off this thread to blow off some steam but as I write it i realize I had the perfect day! All father's should be so lucky as to spend the day sharing the hobby they Love with their child and watching him/her fall in love too. My son wants a tank in his room now. I don't think I can afford MTS x 2!
