Just took a few shots and thought I would share. I would love to get some advice to help me with the fry shots.

What kind of advice for shooting fry? They're tiny and hard to focus on. The results you got are very good.

I am having a lot of trouble focusing on them using my 100mm macro lens. I was wondering if going to a 50 or 60 mm macro lens might work out better. Either that or using a tube between the body and the lens to allow me to focus closer to the lens.

Any thoughts?

There is no clear and easy answer, Grasshopper. :)

You must look to the moon and its brother the wind for the clues that will lead you to Nirvana. :D

But seriously, I want you to think about the problem in a pragmatic fashion and come up with your own solution because it will help you develop your skill.

Will you get any closer with a lens like a 50/60mm?

Will you get a sharper lens than the 100mm?

Kenko tubes will get you closer but there will be a cost. The cost will be a severe loss in dof. Not desirable when shooting squiggly, darting fry.

You have the right lens for the fish you want to shoot, that's for sure.

So what can you do differently to help you focus better in this instance?

tee hee! It's awesome when you get cryptic Gerry! I must say, I am with you, more DOF is WAAAAAY better on smaller subjects IMHO, but, that brings it's own set of issues too! I really think that your shots were good, lots of detail for tiny fish (less than 1cm?) :D I am of course in no way an expert or even close to Gerry's level
