I decided to take a few pics after I took out a few fish and added some more drift wood & java moss. Also, I put some lighter colored gravel mixed in with the black sand. I really like the more planted look, but I'm not sold on the lighter gravel...

I think the set up looks good, the gravel will start to settle down into the black sand and be less noticeable after a while from digging ect I think mixed texctures & sizes look nice.

Looks really good I think it looked better with pure black sand...

Yeah, I hear ya. The lighter colored gravel will move down some though...

It looks good. I think by adding some natural colored sand you can adjust the texture and contrast of the substrate a bit. The fish are all superb, especially the festae.

Thanks and I might take some of the substrate out later... I would like to use a brown sand some time... we'll see.

I like it. I always wonder how tanks with so few places to hide do. Do they get along?

For the most part. I will be getting rid of the female Escondido as she is always starting crap. Also, the Dovii will not be in this tank long term... I will need to buy a bigger tank for him or sell him?? Over all they are really good considering the cichlids in there!!!

Thank you and I thought the same thing about the gravel moving down some.

Great group of fish. I would love to have a group like that. How big is the Red Terror? Watch him, he might become a bully. What size tank is that?

Thank you. The Festae is about 9.5" and he is the dominant fish in the tank. The tank is 265g, however I will not keep all of these fish in there. Some will be going to other tanks / sold over the next few months. Again, thanks.
