So, after I turned on my aquarium light this morning (keep in mind, it was still dark around 6am) I noticed that one of my oscars started swimming out of control. He ended up bumping into the aquarium glass a couple of times and I felt like he had enough speed to literally jump like shamu. So, he stopped... And it pretty much looked like he was half way unconscious... Then, I noticed one of my other oscars was about to do something extremely similar.... And then my convict... I have about 6 other fish in the tank and they seemed fine (granted, it was 6am and the lights turned on... So everythig seemed normal in that situation) and now, a couple of hours later they seem to be ok? Shortly after that behavior, I added some water conditioner and stress zyme to the tank but I can't seen to figure out what happened? I've kept fish on and off for about 10 years now and this is the first time I've noticed this.

Check your water parameters...could have been an ammonia/nitrate spike. Or they could have been spooked by the light. Just my 2 cents....

I'll check the water this afternoon... I'm just hoping it was them being spooked by the light. I normally switch on the light, then leave and do my daily prep for work. This time though I hung out for a minute.

Also, what would cause an ammonia or nitrate spike? I did a 15% water change yesterday like I do every week and I was hanging out in the fish room most of the evening and I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

i would say they just freaked because of the light being turned on when it was dark. my fish do that if the room is dark and i turn the light on.

Alot depends on the size of your tank and current stocking...

That's a little comforting... At the time I was thinking it might have been like mass killing or something.
