  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
love the pattern on the gar! you might want to consider a wider tank & removing the pleco from that tank too.

thanx...it is one of my favorite fish in the tank...i am looking at a 300gal wide it is 6'x3'...it is in a 180gal right now...as for the pleco, it is neering the removal point...i have seen that after they pass 13-15" they tend to like slim coat...i got rid of my old pleco that was 17" cause it started hunting my other fish...so far it hasn't gone after it yet, but i plan to remove it before that time...

thanx and see xander's reply...;)

here is a pic of it when i first got it...that way this is a true before and after update...;)

also i thought i lost it at around 15-17"...my wife came in the bedroom at 2am and said "your fish is dead on the floor!"...i ran out to the livingroom and saw it on the floor dried out...when i saw that i got teary eyed...i went to pick it up as it looked crispy, i touched it and it started squigling all over so i quick moved the top and tossed it back in...it took a few days for it to come around, but eventualy it was the same ole gar with a young catfish fettish...any catfish 10" or less it tries to eat...

great to see that you're aware of the pleco business. If it is a standard 180gal tank (meaning it has a width of 2'), then i take what i said about needing more width back. it's probably comfortable in a 2' wide, however the 6x3 will definately give it some space to stretch out & you'll enjoy it more too. i love the tranformation for a relatively normal looking florida gar to a beauty @ 18"

plecos are nice while they eat algea, but then they are bad...it is a 6x2 footprint of the standard 180...the gar just makes it look smaller as 18" is a concervative measurement...i know the gar is mostlikely "good", but i know that my aro's and ck will need more...the gar will love the extra space aswell...i am also looking into a 450gal...i just have to see...

when i got it i was like eh it is a gar (witch is bad ass), but nothing special...now it is one of the show fish...i love it...

glad you are making the aforementioned adjustments/upgrades. that is definitely an impressive fish you have there. congrats on getting up to that size from YOY stages.--
