I know eventually every mature tank will start growing at least a little bit of algae, and the healthy kind is often refered to as green algae. Is this the same as -blue/green algae??
Also I am trying to grow some algae for my plecos since the tank is pretty new. I left a container of water outside in direct sunlight with a rock in it as people have recomended, What algae can I expect to grow?

Blue green algae is a bacteria thats actually poisonous. Nothing eats it and its rather annoying to have in your tank.

You will probably get just regular green algae growing on it maybe some diatoms.

yeah thats what I was thinking, why would they call cyanobacteria good lol thanks for the advice

Blue-green algae is not poisonous. It is cyanobacteria.

On the rock you will get brown algae.

, should I just take the rock out and leave the water??

Brown algae is only eaten by plecos in small amount really. You would be better off using a zucchini, or broccoli stem. The sticky on pleco feeding has some great info in it.
