First of all my ornate are always swimming at the surface where their fins stick out like they're dragons, is that normal? :screwy:
Second, what's the ULTIMATE food for growing Bichirs cause mine are growing really slow :irked:
Third, is it possible for a senegal and ornate breed?
Forth, am I annoying? :D

1st: lost me a bit there, show us pics!
2nd: I believe market shrimp and prawns, grew my congicus ten inches in 3 months and my ornate 9 inches in 6months.
3rd: I'd say it is possible but you'd probably be the 1st in the world to do so
4th: Highly likely :D

They are supposed to stay on the bottom and come up now and then to gulp air. Your fish must have air trapped in it if it is not going to the bottom. Maybe a swim bladder problem.

1. its normal, as long as it doesnt seem like they CANT get back down
2.my ornate, (got him about a year ago) grew relativly slow, i fed him all kinds of food, frozen silversides, shrimp, hikari carni pellets, feeders, everything.
3.possible, but unlikly to the point of me saying dont hope for it
4.nope, just a dude looking for help

1. Yep its normal. My Delhezi is all over the place at any given moment. Ornates are generally one of the less active bichers, so consider yourself lucky. Just make sure it can negotiate the aquarium with ease. If it seems "stuck" up there it may be a swim bladder defect.

2. I think the ultimate single food is live, but I would advise against it. I feed my bichers shrimp and pellets mixed in a 2:1 ratio, ie for every 2 shrimp feedings they get one round of pellets. I rotate between New Life Spectrum and Hikari Shrimp pellets.

3. Possible? Sure. Likely? No. By the time the ornate reaches maturity it will be double, if not triple the length of the senegalus.

Food wise I agree with the above, through in some sliced beef heart as well, my del and ornate really bulked up on it.
