Hi,

Completely new to arowanas here.
Have always been fascinated by them ever since I first saw one in person when I was 5 year old or so.. 20 years later I might have a chance to get one here.

I was originally thinking of getting a jardini, but I think I like the look of silvers more.

It would go in a 75G growout with a 4" red wolf, 5" peacock eel, 4" senegal bichir until it reaches a good size.

What's the maximum size of silver I could get without
1. being too crammed
2. being a threat to the existing tenants in the tank

I'm aiming to put it in a 125G when bigger, and eventually in a bigger tank after my funds for my new reptile have sorted out this upcoming summer.

Or is this just a bad idea overall?

Always appreciate you informative folks willing to share knowledge/experience :)

What is the footprint of that tank ( metric system, please...)?
I would go for a size bigger than the Red Wolf, say between 8 and 10 inches.

48" x 18" x 21"

so

1.2192m length x 0.4572m height x 0.5334m depth

Technically a 78.5 U.S. gallons, however I tend to toggled between saying 75G and 80G.

So I can be relieved of a 8" - 10" silver swallowing those tank mates?

You'd need to start with a 9-10". In a 75g tank you can grow to about 15-16". This will only take 3-5 months. Because of the narrow width of a 125g it is only good for another couple inches, once the aro is over 18" it will have outgrown a 125g tank. Best to get into a 180g (6x2x2') to move into after the 75g, the 180g will last a couple years.

Thank you, this all puts it into a perspective for me.

I'm looking into upgrading to 180G next summer.

I found a local deal of 6" for $20,
8"-10" are $45-$50 at all stores around here..

Would the 6" be too skittish in the tank?

I dont think so but i would make sure to get a fake ( or real if you want but fake would be easier ) plant that is at the surface for the arowana. When there still little like that they like a place to hide.

A 6"er would give you more time for your upgrade of a 180g, concern would be the wolf.

Oh I've got some frogbits and salvinia in there.
Also lowered the water level about 5"
That's why I think putting an arowana in there makes sense!

You're right. He's already eaten something that I didn't want him to..
You can never trust a wolf I guess.

He seems to lose the territorial battle to the senegal bichir when it comes to hanging out in the best cave though.

I shall indeed look for a bigger one

Thanks everybody, this forum is pretty damn awesome
