1. Is it best to have more than one or do they do okay alone?
2. If you keep two is it best to have Boys or Girls?
3. Wet/Dry Filters are the best ones for them or can you reccommend others?
4. Whats the Average cost on feed for two rays a month and filter media?
Thank you

1. They are fine alone.
2. If not breeding its better to have 2 girls. 2 boys will sometimes fight.
3. Many options, I prefer bead filters and a wet dry trickle filter.
4. $25-100 a month depending on size of rays and what you feed.

So a Canister or Power filter wouldnt work even if you bought one that was say for up to 500 gallons or more when you have a 300 gallon? I just really like these ones best.

For a single ray or a small pair a large canister filter could work, would still recommend using it to feed a trickle filter for extra bio. DIY trickle filters are easy, just take a trash can or other plastic container, cut a hole in the bottom and install a bulkhead, put some egg crate over it, and then pour in bio balls. Set this ontop of your tank/pond and use the canister or other filter to prefilter the water going into the trickle filter. Example:

Can see the trickle filter setup at about 15 seconds. Not sure if that would be practical in your case or not. It also may not be necessary depending on the number and size of rays.

At this moment Im looking into maybe one Henlei and one Hystrix. Im new to the Ray filter requirements. Hoping I can get away without the trickle lol.

I would be careful with the Henlei,Hystrix combo. The Henlei can get at least 2 times the size or bigger then a hystrix and the Henlei are more aggressive of a ray then a Hystrix. Would be okay when they are small but you may or may not have problems as the Henlei grows bigger. I have seen some big aggressive Henlei and they can do some damage to smaller fish or rays.

You will also be able to get away with just canisters for a couple rays.

If these are your first rays then you might be better going with a Motoro ray with the Henlei as they are a hardier species then the Hystrix.

Okay I just want something thats peacful and easy to take care of that stays on the smaller side. I would be okay with getting just one I just fear it may get lonely.

Awesome Sounds good to me!
Thanks for the help
