Hi,

As title i have a few questions i would like to ask about the Parachromis family.

Tonight ive been flicking through my Baensch Aquarium Atlas and writeing down the Parachromis in there and i can find these:

Dovii, Wolf Cichlid
Friedrichstihalii, Freddy Yellow Jacket
Loisellei, Loiselles
Motaguensis, Motaguense
Motaguensis, Managua

Now is there only five in the Parachromis family?

Are the common names right?

Also im confused on the last two as in the Atlas the second one Managua looks more like a Jag than the first Motaguense?

If someone has been lucky enough to try owning all of the Parachromis family whats their favourite and in what order?

Any help and advice would be great.

Thanks Darren.

I belive that is all, I have only Jags and Dovii. I like them both a lot but Dovii is the beast......i mean best.

A "jaguar" is Parachromis managuensis.
Parachromis motaguensis is what's known as a "red tiger mota" or RTM, a separate species from the "jaguar" cichlid.

I asked Aquamojo what his favorite parachromis species was a while back and he said hands down managuensis.

I currently have 5 Parachromis friedrichstali "La Ceiba" (regional variant) growing out and I like them a lot.

I've kept dovii, jag and now I currently have freddy "la ceiba" yellowhead. They're all very cool and very similar in personality imo so really I think it comes down to which you think is most attractive and what size tank you have available.

i have kept motas ,jags ,freddies and dovii,,,,by far my favorite have been dovii, however my jags have been the most prolific breeders. parachromis to me are one of the most interesting to keep if you have the tank space.

My jags hands down the best

i have owned freddies(la-ceiba)and they breed almost every four weeks like they were on a schedule, had a great bond and lived together for along time by themselves and never harmed one another,i think the parachromis species have the best bonds in pairs(imo)

Everyone has a favorite parachromis , but for me out of the ones I have, loiselli, rtm's, and dovii. Dovii takes the cake , but you have to find out what's best for you, also all of them breed a whole lot
