I am going to be getting an 18" RTxTSN over the weekend to add to my collection... I already have once that is 14", and is eating pellets, and doing great.

I'm paying the guy $35 for it, so it's definitely a steal... my issue is- this fish has lived it's entire life in a 40 gallon tank with an 18" common pleco, a 8" chocolate cichlid, and an 8" tinfoil barb.

What are the chances that this fish is extremely sick and/or stunted?

Next question: I am also getting a Fahaka Puffer (Saturday)- it's 18", and is amazing looking.. (not from the person with the rtxtsn) the only issue with that is that the guy feeds him feeder goldies.

I don't want to feed him live food at all, well- not fish anyways unless I can find a healthy alternative fish for him.. how hard do you think it will be to get him to eat other foods other than goldies? I am thinking shrimps shouldn't be an issue or crayfish since they are living...

Also, so anyone know anything about trapdoor snails? I wanna feed him snails since I am sure his teeth may not be filed down enough with the goldies.

Last question... what are the chances of a semi mature; calm/timid flower horn going bonkers if I add him in a tank with a calm/timid Jag and bichirs?

I care more about the Jag than the FH... so I don't want to put my jag in jeopardy.

The only thing I can tell you is you are going to have many problems. especially with the fahaka and that you better have a huge tank, The Doctor

It would be nice if you could elaborate a bit more on my "many issues"..

Fahaka's max out at 18"- I've got a tank that's fine for him.

hope you've got some kind of massive setup planned for those hybrid cats, as far as the FH in with the jag and bichirs i wouldn't risk it, FH's are just too damn mean, and even if he isn't mean now, he'll snap eventually, it's more or less inevitable

I've got a 2,000+ gallon (I think it's 3000 to be honest) intex pool that I bought for my koi, but we didn't need it, so now it's for the cats. :D

I am looking for another big cat to add.... but don't know what yet.

Also, I think I will heed your advice on the FH. He can stay in his own tank.

very nice, you could always try a ripsaw catfish

Good chance the cat has some kinda sick, good chance he's also a tough SOB for doing well at all in a 40. I'd Quarintine both fish in different tanks for a couple weeks, expect aggression when they get where they are going.

I have decided not to get them- I do feel bad that they are cramped in a 40 though. Especially when the guy stated "oh, they got plenty of room in this tank." :(

I just honestly don't want to take the chance- and I didn't consider the aggression, and I honestly don't want to risk my fish just to make me happy- because I would never want to put them in jeopardy.

I am still getting the puffer though, and he will be here Saturday.

I have some midas cichlids I am rehoming... 1 of which I would like to keep.. he gets along well with the 3 other midas he is housed with.. What do you guys think he would do in my tank with my Jag and bichirs?

Again, I don't want to put any of my fish in jeopardy, so I am extremely hesitant on making changes...

The hybrid cat I have will be a year old in July/August- the one the guy has I do not know... I just texted him, so hopefully he has an answer for me.

Hmm. Get a Planiceps cat!
