I have started to set my 75g up for salt, it has 23lbs of live rock in it, and an Fx5 and corralife HOB 125g protein skimmer. Tomorrow I will be returnign to the pet store to get 85 more lbs of live rock. This will be my first saltwater fish tank and I want to know what you guys think of this stock list. Keep in mind that this take will only be up for 3-4 months, if I dislike salt the fish and live rock will be sold off but if I enjoy the experience I will be turning my 215g salt and moving the fish from the 75g into that.

1x 5"-7" Miniatus Grouper
1x 8"-10" Zebra Moray

the stocklist is somewhat simple with only two fish but my questions are:
1. Will the two get along alright?
2. Is my filtration going to be enough for the waste made by the two?
3. If my filtration isn't enough how much more live rock should I buy?

I know how big both of these get and as I said they will most likely be moved to my 215g since Im already falling in love with salt with each day I progress.

1. Most likely
2. Ditch the fx5, canisters are a huge pita in salt, build a sump with fuge instead and put your skimmer in it
3. You don't need that much live rock, if you want to save $, you can use mostly lace/base rock and let the "live-ness" spread to the lace/base rock

I always recommend quality LR...that being said, the whole tank doesnt NEED to have it. Better LR is always nice though.

I agree with everything that bigo has said...

Gotta be careful with groupers, sometimes they can be real nasty. They will also do night raids on sleeping fish...or at least I had a spotted grouper that did.

Went to the store today and picked up 82lbs of live rock, even if I didnt need it its better to have more than less =) I also got a great deal on it at $2.50 a pound, as for the canister I cant do much about it my fund are depleted right now so its gatta stay, atleast its an Fx5 however I did build the live rock so it concealed the Protein Skimmer and intake for the Fx5. Will post pictures later

then take everything out of the fx5, maybe keep a little bit of mech, but you would have to clean it out every week minimum (sucks using canisters on salt)

why every week? and all I have in it is some stuff to get rid of phosphates

because thats how it is in saltwater, canisters create nitrate faster than we would like, and end up fing up our tanks

same thing happened to pazzoman

Pazz also wasnt siphoning his gravel...or getting it cleaned at all.

He has lots of problems right now. Nothing we cant fix though. :D
