Hello All,

I'm new here. Im planning on setting up an African Cichlid tank. Tank will be 180g. Filtering will be 2x FX5's and 1 AC110. Maybe a powerhead or two. I already did research on the type of gravel/sand and overall tank (caves, rocks etc). My question is if africans will get along with live plants, and if so, which live plants. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I never had luck with live plants and aggression fish IE African exc.......

I run the proper lighting but fake plants , Do your self a favor Buy fake but
$$ Plants that look real . IMO :chillpill::popcorn:

you could do live plants with some Tanganyikans like julies or Altolamprologus, but pretty much wouldn't do so with Lake Malawi cichlids

Also if you keep keep your water at or near the proper ph for your tanganyikans you will be hard pressed to keep your plants alive even with proper lighting. You might try any "hard Water" plants and stick to rockdwellers and shelldwellers

They will eat most plants and if they don't eat it they will more than likely dig it up.

I agree.

Tangs and anubias go well together but expect a floater plant every now and then, what i do is wedge them in a crevice to keep them from pulling the plants out, fronts and plants are hard to keep but some of your other smaller tangs will be ok with them..

Malawi is a different story pretty much will destroy live plants..
