He said it might be female.. so my question is i have 1 male midas and 1 male xiloaensis if it does turn out a female will they ceratainly breed? can midas cross breed with xiloaensis? there is other bigger fish in the tank will there be war?

if a male and a female midas pair off they will breed and their will be a nuclear war :headbang2

Yeah if the midas do breed they will most likely kill off all your other fish.

I no midas are aggresive when they breed my question is will they still breed if there is a lot more bigger fish? They are the smallest fish around 5-6"... Will they interbreed with xiloanesis??

It doesn't matter their size, my Dempsey's have been breeding since they were about 3-4"s. If they decide to get in the mood and pair they will. If that happens, you're pretty well only going to be able to keep that pair in your tank. If they don't kill the tankmates they sure will make life miserable for them.

im still not sure the other fish is female..... but for the mos part i dont think they will kill the tankmates.... ther is a 10'' oscar, 8'' flowerhorn,7'' gt, 6.5''' xiloaensis and a small loisellei. if the i do end up taking in the fish can they breed with xiloaensis? if the midas and xilo wer to fight for breeding rightd the xilo would win.. but im not sure if midas can even breed with xilos

You don't understand breeding cichlids... once they hit breed mode, it doesn't matter the size of their tankmates, they will relentlessly attack them. Amphilophus and Parachromis are probably the nastiest genus of cichlids out there when spawning. I wouldn't add this fish to your stock. You'll just be asking for trouble.

ok thanks i guess i shouldnt take it inn.....

Since you’re currently battling Columnaris as a result of a serious Ich infestation I would hold off on adding any fish for a while. The stress caused by the Ich/Coulmnairs compounded by the addition of another fish might be enough to kick start the cycle all over again and I wouldn’t risk it weather it’s a male or female.

Tanks with all males work a lot of times because of the absences of breeding aggression/competition. Once the balance is disrupted it can upset the whole dynamic and what was a peaceful tank can suddenly turn very ugly, very quickly.

To answer your question Amphilophus Citrinellus and Amphilophus Xiloaensis can breed.

My advice for what it’s worth is do not add any more fish for a while. Just concentrate on what you have for now.
