Question first to save some on the reading part.

What can my wife and I do to help these fish survive after being in a bucket, in a garage, on a 30 min car ride? They are in a new 75g aquarium

*****************************

We have a 125g tank that you can see from the street when anyone walks or drives by. And this one day, some young guy came up to me in the garage and asked if we had room to rescue his fish. I was a little reluctant as I just bought my wife a 75g tank for a Axolotl she was wanting to get. But she learned that they can eat the gravel and die. And she likes pretty decorations. So just when we were planning on going to the LFS this guy comes up to me. So, with all that in mind, and knowing we still have the cycle the 75g. tank. And not knowing weather the fish had any medical issues. I told the guy yes. So a hour and a half later he drives up with a stinky bucket of water and 3 dead fish on there side and a couple still moving.

My wife was inside doing the dishes. So after the guy had left me with this Bucket o' Fish. I looked for any fish that was still moving, scooped them into the net, then walked each fish from the garage into my wifes 75g tank in our room. And trying to hurry so she did not find out. I watched as each fish kind of just sunk and stayed on the bottom. There fins were moving a little. And there gills were moving a little. But they were vertical. As I was going back and forth I noticed a small Oscar that was dead, 2 parrot cichlids, and some other big black guy. So we now have 4 fish in her 75g tank. She caught me! She came walking in asking what I was doing and sure enough. She saw some dark objects in the tank. And she got happy. THen I had to calm her down and explain the situation. And she grew more atatched to them after hearing we were saving them.

I put in a air disk, a air wand, just a tad of Epson Salt, some sort of Tetra Fisrt Start Biological stuff, Prime Water Conditioner, and some hiding places for them. We went out to the garage to have a smoke and to show her the bucket. She felt bad for them dead fish. And really wanted to rescue the fish we had in the tank. I had no clue she was going to be like this. I thought after she had sold her Angle fish, that she wanted to pick out her own fish. Not just have a fish land in our laps. So as we were smoking in the garage and she saw the bucket. We were talking and all of a sudden... We heard a thump in the bucket. So we ran over and all we saw were 2 red Parrot Cichlids dead on there side, a small Oscar dead on his side, and some other big black guy dead on his side. But as I started walking away from the bucket. My wife yelled... "He moved He Moved!!" Turned out the fish was so so week that he was on his side, all black, and hus gills were moving as fast as a slow leak on a faucet sink.

Well, I told her we could try to save him also. But he may not make it. At least the others were still responsive to the net touching them. And this guy acted dead the entire time I was scooping everyone up. So now we have 5 fish in her tank. 1 Pleco, and 3 fish that are kind of plopped on the thin gravel moving there fins and fills but still not moving around. And the new guy that is in the 75g tank, in the back right corner, and still laying on his side. So after some hours have passed. He is still on his side with only his gills moving real slow. Just when I told my wife I was going to get a net and see about turning him over to help his other gills move better.... Verses them moving as he is laying on the other side. She shouted "Hes Up Hes UP!!!!!" And sure enough... As if the heard me. he sat up.

So far all I have been able to identify is a Plecosamus, a convict cichlid, and im still weighting to see if 2 of them are Jack Dempsey or Texas or Green Terrors. Im not sure. I will post any pictures as I am able to get them.

Last night counts there first 48/hr in my wifes tank. Just from the bucket water that was on the net. After fishing out all the live fish. The tank water was like a morning fog. I did a 40% water change after there first 24/hrs, I did not do anything with them at there 48/hr mark. And I think tonight I may do another 40% water change. Unless anyone out there can give us any pointers. hint hint. Our rescued fish would thank you.

As for the current tank setup... At first all they had was a round air bubble disk on one side of the 75g tank and a bubble wand on the other side. After the first 24/hrs I added a Penguin 350 HOB power filter that has no lid or Bio-wheel, and I took out the one air disk on that side. Then last night I took out the other. Thinking less noise on them and maby more piece for them. Tonight I may be adding a used Aquaclear 70 to the tank. And I may remove the Penguin 350. Because Its a little loud. So tonight will be a better full AquaClear 70 filter that I have had running on a established tank for 3-4 days now. And I may keep the Penguin 350 on the tank. Or I may take it off.

The fish remind me of Kribensis fish right now. WOW... I can only imagine the shock and stress they must have gone through, And all of them dieing one by one. And that one guy I thought was one of the dead guys. Making his last thump against the bucket walls. When the whole time he just drifted on his side as if he was dead as I scooped the other guys out.

They seam to be doing well. They wont come out of any caves when the room lights are on. And if the lights are off for some time. And you flip the switch you can see them swimming around... But within 2 yards from the tank. They all hide again. They hide so hard, That 3 of them will cram into some small cave decor either the Jewl chcilid or the pleco will be left out. And one guy will hide on the other side of the tank. Alone in a cave.

Just in case I forgot to mention... The guy had them in a bucket in his garage with no air stone and no heater for 24 hours before he drove up to our house. I guess he was going to just let them die in a bucket if noone was able to help or answered his craigslist add. But I never saw no add like this on Craigslist. Well as long as my wife is happy with them and she really wants to help them survive. Thats all I care about. Because a Happy wife is a happy life ;) hehehehe

As you can see. Its my wifes tank. But now that she has fallen forbthem larger fish. I think she will learn that palm trees and Sponge bob decor will not make them happy. Hehehe im sure they wont mindbher rocks/gravel selection hehehe she is just praying they pull through.
