I have a young bowfin that I kept since last Aug. He is kept with a bullhead and two extra larger golden shiner. The problem is that my bowfin is really picky eater as he can only be fed with fathead minnows but won't touch goldfish, red rosies and guppies. Why is that? I did isolated my feeder fish for a month, yet the bowfin won't touch them but only fathead minnows. The rest of feeder fish goes to the bullhead and it needs to put on the diet soon. It's frustating since I am wasted $$ on feeder fish that my bowfin won't touch them. Should I let my bowfin starving for awhile till he can take feeder fish that is not a fathead minnow? I was thinking about try out ghost shrimp sometimes but then its 60 cents each one and a dozen of ghost shrimp won't last for 3 days.
