The amount of knowledge you can gain in this hobby in a short time is simply astounding, and I figured I would share my experience from the past half year.
Here is a picture of my first independent setup aside from keeping natives as a kid, Last July.
yeah, that stock list was the product of petsmart not asking me anything about my tank, etc - ironically enough, I now work there trying to make sure this doesn't happen to other people. Surprisngly enough, that OP gourami lived through everything and now subsides in my 45 gallon, happy as can be (although he never grew much due to my lack of knowledge and I stunted him I believe) - I didn't know water changes, etc for at least the first month I had this tank :\
Upgrade 1, this tank was in my garage at home
Little bit of an upgrade this try, still no heater lol (got one a couple weeks later if i remember correctly)
Had a little more success with this one, and got my first two senegal bichirs at about 2" each in mid-october. They're currently closing in on 6"
Largest Upgrade to this 75 gal
picture is about 3-4 weeks after I got the tank, Cycled it with seachem stability and never had any problems, great product

Since That last picture, i've really stepped everything up I believe, Here's a picture of my most recent addition today:
Try to avoid the flaming on this one, he's VERY temporary, like the picture says it was labeled as a koi and I just had to get him out of there, potentially going in the 29 gallon i'm cycling for my girlfriend or getting traded in to the LFS where he'll get the proper care, I figured even a 10g with the proper PH is an upgrade over petsmart's water
Current Look on the 45g:
A Few of the current inhabitants:
can't wait for the del to be big enough to go in the 75 with the sens, he's really close
_________
And now the current product, compare this to the picture of the first tank in July and I feel like this is a pretty decent upgrade, nothing special but the best I've done so far
And Lastly a few pictures of a couple inhabitants
Anybody else have any huge turnarounds once you did your research and became a member of this site? An embarassing first attempt at a tank? The difference for me has been night and day and there's still so much to learn. Very happy that the makers of this forum gave us all the opportunity to learn from one another. Thanks MFK.
