There's a local pond near to me that can only be fished for about three months of the year due the trees and water being too high. It's basically a hole in the ground that floods during winter. It's home to carp, crucians and roach, although no more than an 1/8 of an acre it has some large residents.
My tactics are always the same, one carp rod with a PVA bag as a sleeper and a very small, light float rig for the crucians. As mentioned above there are large carp in there, my dad caught one a couple of years back at just under 10lbs, I've had many up to 4.5lbs.
So I waded through the mud and setup, nothing much happening on the halibut pellet so I switched to some red pellets lurking around at the bottom of my rucksack and then the float dissapeered, ten minutes later It reappeared, and I'd found the cause, the carp rod was silent all afternoon, still a 5.5lb carp on a rod designed to catch 1lb crucians:

I only had my phone with me
