a Fluval question! 405 and fx5

Ok to cut down on evap im having 1pc glass lids made, now part of this will have holes for the tubes from a 405 or a fx5. So my question is, are the tubes for both filters the same? What is the max OD (outside diam) of the tubes? I figure the glass needs a hole drilled and a notch put in for the heater wire, or if the end of the hose that goes in the water is bigger than the hose and doesn't come off then once that goes in the tank there will be enough room for the wire on the heater to fit in the same hole.

Any detailed pics of the fluval series would be good, or any input.

looking at my 404 i say 1'' to 1 1/4'' would be good for the hoses
