Ok. my lfs has a long stand with two 150 tanks side by side, said he has had it like that for 6 years. OK I have 2 15 gallon colum tanks i want to sit side by side. I have an old all wood dresser; they fit side by side, but what constitutes that it will hold them up. same as if i have to make a DIY stand. Is it just the amount of bracing. I know a 125 stand won't hold a 400, but I was just wondering about stand in general.

I have 2x 20g High on my dresser. Its been their for over a year. Just your standard/sub-standard wood dresser.
I would think that a dresser would be stronger than the cheap *** stands tanks come with these days!
My 55 had a stand with it i just didnt trust it. It was prolly because the tank was as wide as the stand.
old all wood dressers are build like tanks, pun intended. Having said that, each situation is different. bracing and build, including wood thickness are key. Having said that, it sounds like you would be ok, if you feel the wood is thick enough and built well enough.
What is the dresser made of? if its particle board i wouldn't trust it as water can do some serious damage, had the bottom of a 10g crack because of particle board that began to curve downwards in the middle
