This past summer I kept my 20 african haps in an 8 foot kiddie pool. In about 4 months they put on almost an inch in length. As the nights cooled I was busy with work so I put off bringing them back indoors for the winter. So I would cover them at night with a bubblewrap thermal cover to avoid the water temp dropping below 62 deg. In the morning I would remove it. One morning I left for work and forgot to take it off. When I got back home my haps which I had nurtured all summer had been suffocated! After more than 30 years of keeping fish I remembered "fish need air!" Only a red zebra and electric blue survived out of the 20.

Ouch that's rough, just an air pump and you would have been ok. Bet you will add one next time. Sorry for your loss

That sucks.

Not stupid Steve. You made a mistake don't beat youself up for it. Take it as a lesson learned.

Hi Bryan,

I did not even think about using an air pump under the cover. There were powerheads under the cover but fresh air was needed. An air pump is a great idea and would have saved them.

Thanks for the idea.
