Accidentally have it bite you. When you notice TWO rows of puncture wounds, you know exactly what species it is.

I speak from experience.

it's not some horrific, massive bite though.
This gar was like 4''.. Still managed to break the skin though.

As far as I know there is no sexual dimorphism.To accurately determine sex requires a blood test

But if saying it will help with "sexing the fish" can get Jeox to get bit by several gar & then post photos of the bites...then yeah, sure I can tell the sex of a gar by inspecting it's bite pattern
