I just found my 20 gallon long grow out tank practically empty :( Looks like a seam busted or something. There is water everywhere and I lost 2 of my platinum jds and a bunch of newly born guppies. Thankfully it wasn't my 150 gallon that decided to leak, but I'm still a bit upset about it. What would make a practically brand new tank leak like that? I bought the tank new from petco 3-4 months ago and it has been set up since. It hasn't been moved or anything. The last time there was a fluctuation in water level in the tank was on Sunday(water change day). I only touched the tank today(well the lid) to feed the fish...

Wow, that stinks, sorry for your troubles. I can't think of any reason for a new tank to pop that way and it might be worth your time to contact the manufacturer. If you don't know why they are, contact the Petco where you bought the tank and they should be able to tell you.

OMG - I'm so sorry to hear about your tank. Only thing that I can think of causing the leak is irregular movement of the tank or just bad seals on the tank itself. I am sooooo sorry you lost some of your babies Sandy. If your husband let's you spend a little more money, I can send you a few of mine.

Thank you Jill. We did just get our tax returns:naughty:

It could have been Bad seals or the tank was on an uneven surface? Sorry for your losses Sandy, good luck with the rest of your tanks.

I've always beleived in not buying tanks from petco and petsmart as I've heard of there tanks doing this on the regular. Sorry I know what your going through as my 75 did the same a few years back

My Petco sells Aqueon/All-Glass brand tanks and I've never had an issue. I always take advantage of their $1/gallon sale for 20 long, 20, and 40 breeder tanks. It could be a bad seal (which occasionally do happen regardless of the manufacturer) or an uneven stand/surface. Make sure your stand is level. I guess it's possible that some damage occurred between the manufacturer and the store as well. You never know what happens to a tank between point A and point B, how many people have handled it, if it's been mishandled, etc.

Sorry to hear about the loss, but thank god it wasn't a big tank!
