i got $40 to spend on a fish for my 55g. but heres the thing. i really like a store near my ranch ( im at my ranch now ) and would like to pick up the fish there. but its three hours from where i live. will it be okay? would an invert do better? coral? if i get a fish i would like a potters angelfish how do those ship? how bout butterfly fish? i wouldnt mind a long nose. any other fish you guys would reccomend? thnks

How long are you staying at the ranch.. if it is until after christmas well then pick up the fish just before you leave and have all the foam cartons ready for the fish store to pack.. make sure you tell they have to pack it for a three hour drive..they may have everything you need... just talk to them ahead of time to make sure.

cool thanks. i would be driving by the store on the way back. i really want a pygmy angelfish like a flame angel or a potters, wil these get along with my 1" baby french angel? if not i wont get one but i think a 2" potters will be fine.

is it cold where ur at if it is get a styro foam cooler to put the bag in cause even in a car the water will loose alot of heat i use a cooler even in the summer time to keep the water at temp and see if your lfs has large bags as this will hold more water and more water means more air and more air = less stress on the fish. another thing i have the store do for a long trip is put some stress reducer in the bag but that is just me not sure how the fish will get along that is a good question for mr. reef. i hope your fish makes the trip with as little stress as possible.

I got my trigger last weekend from a lfs about 2 hrs north of where i live. It was a disaster. I told the guy at the store i was about 2 hrs away from the house so he baged him up with pure oxygen in the bag and said he would be good for however long it took to get home. Well about 10 mins into the ride back, i look over in the box where the bag was and i saw water. This little guy had done bit through the bag. I took the bag out and turned it over so that the hole was at the top. Well that didnt help it was leaking from about 3 different spots. To make things worse, i came over a hill on the interstate to find road construction with traffic at a stand still. I didnt think the fish was goin to make it. Luckily i had put a bucket in the trunk the day before and realised it when the fish was just about to not have enough water in it. I pulled over and pured the water in and had to ride back with the bucket at a tilt so the trigger would have enough water to breathe. To sum it up, that was a stressful trip back.

i buy fish about 2 times a year from a lfs that is 2 1/2 hours away.. if they (lfs) properly prepare the bag with pure O2 and plenty of water and you transport the fish inside the car and in a styrofoam ice chest you should be fine.. unless the fish chews thru or puntures the bag or you run into a traffic stand still lasting days.. fish shipped from online vendors arive perfectly fine and they spend more than 3 hours in transit..its all in the proper "packing" for the trip

is that your trigger in your av??? im thinking bout getting a bluejaw from a friend

I don't know how a more fragile fish would do, but I've transported two-foot long Pacu over three hours before. They're fine. I'd go for it. If in doubt about the bag, you can always bring a bucket and airstone, along with a power converter, and have them place the fish in the bucket, rather than a bag.
