Hello everybody, I'm a new member of this site. Nice to meet all of you.

I have a question and would love to recieve some help. I have a snakehead that has been in my tank for more than 2 months. It's >10 " in lenght now and quite healthy.

I just wonder... What species am I having? I think it's a true Maculata or a Hybrid with Argus (not pure Argus, that I'm certain).

So... Would you mind me identify the fish?

Thanks all of you.

Looks maculata.

Btw guys, how can I distinguish between pure Maculatas and the Hybrids? I mean... They could be very similar sometimes.

When I got this fish, I had already checked the information regarding C. Maculata so that I could pick the one with the most similarities (imo only), but I'm still a little skeptical about it's actual race.

Gotta ask the pros. I wouldn’t be able to answer that.

Looks argus, or very stressed maculata.
Hard to tell from these pictures.

A side picture would help identify the pointier snout of argus compared to the broader snout of maculata. If you have pictures of it settled in, you could also look for bright lines in the fins, which argus lacks.

While reefman reefman clearly has an argus, I am unsure bout yours, it looks broader, less elongated.

As for hybrids, since they can be very close to argus as much as they can be very close to maculata, it is very hard to be 100% sure that whatever you have (imo maculata) is not hybrid at all.

Check this, maybe it'll help more to see from your direct view of the fish compared to these informations, most hints can't be seen on your pictures:

Thanks alot.
Well... I used that site to pick this one out btw, so I'm sure that my SH is more Maculata than Argus. My only concern is... Was my fish a true Maculata? Or a Hybrid.

So... A broader snout and less elongated body...Argus doesn't have 2 separated rows of pattern like my SH, or the cadual peduncle. I'll take some pictures later when the fish settled in for easier checking anyway.
