I have been lurking the biggest part of the day just trying to find out a better chemical filtration then carbon alone, and have come to the conclusion that most of u think Chemi-Pure elite is the best, unfortunately 60$+ every 4 months is just a little bit steep(ok, maybe not but im trying to be tight lol), and i was wondering if any of u guys use other things like mixing carbon with something?

i have also read that a "chemical" filtration (carbon) is not necessarily needed, i mean, i do water changes every week ~25% so do i even need carbon or anything there?

- i use filter pads and scrubbies for my mech and i have Bio-balls in my filters

Have you looked in to Purigen? You can recharge it with bleach.

Oh, and you definitely don't "need" chemical filtration for a healthy tank. It's just sort of an "extra" some people like to use.

I use only carbon which is changes every month. And I use prime dechlorinator. I don't think anything else is needed

Recharge it with bleach? so, you just keep it in one of the sock things for media, and once a month or so, u dump it in a container of bleach (then in prime or someting?) and then re-use it?, it doesnt hurt the fish?
